FAQs
What does 10P stand for?
10P originally stood for:
“A Prisoner’s Parole Portfolio is Positive Programming and Prior Preparation that Prevents a Poor Performance.”
As the program evolved beyond the carceral setting, its meaning expanded to reflect a broader mission:
“A Powerful Person’s Portfolio is Positive Programming and Prior Preparation to Provide Phenomenal Possibilities.”
What is the 10P Program?
10P is a nonprofit organization dedicated to teaching emotional literacy to individuals and communities—helping people develop self-awareness, regulate emotions, and make better decisions that lead to stronger relationships and better life outcomes.
Who are 10P programs for?
10P serves a wide range of individuals, including youth, students, athletes, those impacted by the justice system, individuals with disabilities, and anyone committed to personal growth and transformation.
Where are 10P programs offered?
10P programs are delivered in prisons, juvenile halls, schools, community settings, corporate environments, and through correspondence programs—making them accessible across different environments and life stages.
What makes 10P different from other programs?
10P is led by trauma-informed facilitators, many of whom have lived experience and have completed the program themselves. This creates authenticity, trust, and a deeper level of connection that drives real transformation.
How do I get involved with 10P?
There are many ways to get involved—you can donate, sponsor a program, volunteer, become a facilitator, start a fundraiser, or partner with us in your community.
How does my donation make a difference?
Your support helps fund programs that reduce aggression, improve emotional well-being, strengthen relationships, and create opportunities for individuals to build better futures.
Can I bring a 10P program to my organization or community?
Yes. We partner with schools, organizations, and communities to deliver customized emotional literacy programs. Reach out to us to discuss your needs.
What are Healing Circles of Restoration?
Healing Circles provide safe, supportive spaces for individuals to share, reflect, and grow through guided emotional literacy practices. These circles foster connection, healing, and accountability.
How can I become a facilitator?
We offer opportunities for individuals who are passionate about impact to train and become 10P facilitators. Visit our “Work With Us” page to learn more.
Is 10P only for people who are incarcerated?
No. While 10P’s roots and a large part of our work began inside prisons, our programs are for everyone with a heartbeat. We run peer‑led, trauma‑informed workshops and curricula in prisons, schools, community settings, and online — and we serve individuals, families, youth, returning citizens, and organizations. Our goal is to build emotional literacy, restore relationships, and create safer communities wherever people live and learn
Is my donation a tax write-off?
Yes, and we deeply appreciate gifts of any size. We provide an official donation receipt for every gift and are happy to supply whatever documentation you need for your records. If you’d like to confirm deductibility before you give, we can share our current tax‑exempt documentation or suggest next steps — and we always recommend checking with your tax advisor for personal guidance.
Is 10P only for organizations or do you work with people individually?
We work with both. 10P partners with schools, correctional facilities, community groups, and agencies, and we also offer individual‑facing options: correspondence courses, one‑on‑one coaching/mentorship matches where available, family‑integrated workshops (like B.E.L.T.), and community workshops you can sign up for. If you’re an individual interested in a course, coach, or correspondence packet, contact us and we’ll help you find the right path.
Can I request Sam or a 10P Facilitator for my event?
Yes — you can request Sam or a trained 10P facilitator. Availability depends on scheduling, location, and any institutional/security requirements (for on‑grounds prison events we follow CDCR/CRM processes and visitor clearance protocols). To request a speaker or facilitator, send event details (date, time, audience size, location, purpose, honorarium/budget) to sambrown@10pprogram.org. We’ll confirm availability, explain any fees or travel needs, and if the event is inside a secure facility we ask that you please outline the clearance process and provide the forms required.
